Ten Tips to Help You Care for Yourself

If you’re a caregiver, you may tend to neglect your own well-being. You may not eat a balanced diet, get enough exercise, or enjoy a full night’s sleep. Compared to people who are not in a caregiver role, you are more likely to experience problems such as depression, anxiety, and anger.

Ten Tips to Help You Care for Yourself

  1. Pay attention to your needs, too. 
  2. Seek (and accept) help
  3. Share your feelings with others.
  4. Get organized.
  5. Plan ahead.
  6. Ask questions.
  7. Work with your health care team.
  8. Stay close to your loved one.
  9. Make peace with “good enough.”
  10. Watch for signs of burnout.
