Cancer Prevention Checklist

Throughout the month of February we have been sharing with you some lifestyle changes to help prevent cancer. Here’s a comprehensive checklist to help track your changes.

Exercise

  • Aim for two and a half hours of moderate aerobic physical activity each week
  • Incorporate some form of strength training into your routine twice a week
  • Try a new exercise every week to keep things fresh
  • Join one of our group exercise classes
  • Set short term and long-term goals
  • Read this article on how exercise can help with prevention
  • Schedule an appointment with our cancer exercise specialist, Matt Schmitz, to create a personalized workout plan

Diet/Nutrition

  • Check out our recipes page, for new food ideas recommended by our oncology dietitians
  • Control your portion sizes
  • Eat a healthier protein like fish instead of processed meat
  • Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains
  • Drink water instead of soda or sports drinks
  • Limit your alcohol consumption
  • Consider trying a new way of eating, like the Mediterranean diet
  • Schedule an appointment with one of our oncology dietitians, Beth Beckett and Mary Beth Peiffer, to discuss your goals and create a plan personalized to you
