Nancy Yeisley MSW, LISW, OSW-COncology Social Worker Helen G. Nassif Community Cancer CenterWellness; Social Work
Nancy Yeisley, MSW, LISW, OSW-C, is one of the oncology social workers at the Helen G. Nassif Community Cancer Center. Nancy earned her bachelor’s degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, and here Master of Social Work from the University of Iowa. Nancy is board certified by the Board of Oncology Social Work Examiners.
Nancy originally planned to be a Child Psychologist, but switched gears after her dad was diagnosed with stage 3-B colorectal cancer when she was finishing her undergraduate degree. She went on to get her Master in Social Work at the University of Iowa. Her first job was in hospice and she has now been working with cancer patients for 24 years.
Nancy’s clinical interests as a social worker are family-centered care which includes helping the entire family deal with a cancer diagnosis, and palliative care which helps patients and families address quality of life issues. She is motivated each day to make every patient feel that they matter, are heard and have the help they need during a difficult time in their lives. Nancy describes her care as compassionate.
“I want to meet the patient where they are at, build relationships and let the patient know they are important and they matter. It’s my goal to make a patient’s life ‘just a little easier’ than it would be if I wasn’t involved.”
Nancy is the mother of three boys. She also has a step-daughter and grandson. In her free time Nancy enjoys baseball, basketball and snowmobiling. She is also a full-blooded Czech and enjoys speaking the language with others, including patients.
