Mary Osborn, BSN, RN, CCM, is one of the Care Coordinators at the Helen G. Nassif Community Cancer Center. She graduated from Mount Mercy University with her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, and received her RN diploma from the St. Luke’s School of Nursing.
Mary began her career as a staff nurse in the adult Critical Care Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital for 12 years. She then transitioned to a teaching role as a Clinical Nursing instructor with Kirkwood Community College while also working in St. Luke’s Cardiac Rehabilitation. Mary then worked as a case manager for a health insurance company for a decade before returning to St. Luke’s as a Clinical Liaison. She has been in her current role since the fall of 2017.
Mary chose to go into her field because of her curiosity and determination to blaze her own trail in the healthcare field. “Healthcare offers so much diversity to nurses,” she says. “I continue to learn new information and skills with each new experience.”
Mary says she is motivated each day by having the ability to provide a calm, reassuring environment to patients who are going through a difficult time.
When asked what qualities describe her care, Mary said, “I am here to provide care and support for breast health patients, and to be an advocate and a support system to promote health and well-being using my past experience and knowledge.”
In her free time Mary enjoys spending time with her grandchildren. Her and her husband are active in ballroom dancing, serving on the board of directors of the Iowa Corridor USA Dance Chapter. She also enjoys gardening and supplying her friends and family with fresh produce.
